Why I don't post anything...

I write things. But then I think, "why should I post that?" And I don't.

World leaders meeting in New York to talk about saving the world

The Copenhagen conference is getting closer and closer. Kyoto couldn't do enough. Will Copenhagen help change the world for the better? While a lot is being said and talked about, we'll have to wait and see what major decisions are taken there.

But before that, many world leaders are meeting in New York and Pittsburgh this week. There should have been more of these meetings. Such meetings are important and crucial, since there are literally thousands of issues to discuss and solve. There are all kinds of small and large issues. Will the US cut its emissions? What about China and India? What will happen to those small countries which are losing land?

All that reminds me of Japan's new Prime Minister, Mr Hatoyama. He's promised to cut Japan's carbon emission by 25% by 2020. I'm looking forward to seeing what he will bring to the table. And.. Hello, President Obama?!!

(More on this later on, as I have to leave right now.)

Been Away

I haven't written anything in the last few weeks. I didn't have an internet connection and then the mid-term exams and all that drama surrounding it. Ah!

There are a few drafts lying there which I'll post soon. And there are many things that I wanted/want to talk about. Now that I have an internet connection and a lot of time, I'll make sure that I update my blog regularly.

Pakistan's lawyers above law?

Things like this (BBC News: Pakistan's lawyers above law?) make me want to study sociology, law and politics. I want to understand what causes things to go to that level.

Social injustice at the root of everything? Hmm...

No education; happy birthday politician saahab

Putting off education to celebrate a politician's birthday? Every August (Edit: and September?) it happens at many universities in Karachi.

Fourth year and I'm still speechless. I really am.

Problems in Pakistan

I remember a few years ago one of our teachers asked me what the three biggest problems of Pakistan were. I said, "Lack of education, lack of leadership and injustice."

I still think I was kinda right. Khayr, tamaam PakistaniyoN ko aazaadi mubaarak ho.

Ex-president Pervez Musharraf's singing abilities

Pakistan's ex-president Gen (R) Pervez Musharraf is a man of many talents. I admire him for many things. Not many can do as much as he can, and not many would do all that he did. Sure, he has made a few mistakes here and there, but who hasn't? How many of you can even dream of doing things that he has actually done?

Another extremely talented person is Russia's ex-president (ex KGB spy) Vladimir Putin. One always hears about his many talents and adventures. But could even he have done this had he been the president of Islamic Republic of Pakistan?

Back to school in Swat

It felt good to read this (Back to school in Pakistan's Swat valley) right in the morning. Swatis have been through Hell in recent past. And, these children? In my opinion, they were the ones who were most affected.

But I have high hopes that it will be these kids who will change the outlook of this region. They are back in school after witnessing all kinds of troubles. They are not your ordinary school-children, who know little about life outside their classroom and playground. These children know the value of life, and are determined to make the most of theirs.

And now, if only the older Swatis pay more attention to the value of proper education...hmm...

Why I must leave Karachi..

Today while discussing our post-graduation plans, a friend of mine asked me why I wanted to leave Karachi (Pakistan). I replied,
Karachi's uniqueness attracts and binds its visitors to itself. As much as I love this country, I can't live here much longer. What do I need? Serenity, security, and my soul. Can we find them here?
